We were invited again this year by the MG Car Club to exhibit our TF’s at their big event of the year, MG LIVE at the Silverstone race circuit. I put the event in the Naylor News and this year we mustered 7 TF’s on the Sunday, which was a really good turnout.
We were extremely lucky with the weather and it turned out to be a really warm day. On display were the TF’s of:
- Brian Daniels
- Ken Beels
- Keith Heywood
- Rod Hennesey
- Tom Fallon
- Martin Johnson
- Robert Baines
For Brian, Ken, Keith and myself it was the second year we had attended but for Rod, Tom and Martin it was their first visit. Rod had brought a friend with him and Martin’s son had travelled all the way from Scunthorpe to accompany his father. We hadn’t met Tom or Martin before so it was good to meet them and much discussion about TF’s then followed as well as inspection of the cars.
There was plenty to see and do all day. Racing was going on most of the time, also you could take part in a timed autotest around an obstacle course or admire the concours entries, many better than when they were new. There were many hundreds of MG’s of all ages from pre-war to the very latest models that you would find in your local MG showroom today.
Period buses were available to take you all around the circuit so that you could reach the outlying parts of the track. Many of the grandstands were open for viewing the racing from. Plenty of trade stands were in evidence as well as live music. At the end of the day some of us adjourned to the nearby Silverstone Premier Inn for dinner and a bed for the night before heading home the next morning.
